Server service Published January 23, 2005

The Windows Server service allows a computer to share printers and files with other computers. It’s a resource hog that you may want to shut down and disable if you don’t plan to share files or printers with others. However, you may want to enable this service temporarily to share some files. Here’s a quick script I wrote to let you do just that. @echo off sc.exe config lanmanserver start= auto sc.

Heading Out Published January 23, 2005

Here I am, writing an entry in the blog when I should be finishing up all of the things that I have to do before I go away for one full week of Oracle training. This is week one of three, and this one should be relatively easy since I already know my way around SQL pretty well. I’m still interested in this class because half of the material will be completely new to me.

Political Science Lesson – Fascist Regimes Published January 13, 2005

Political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt recently wrote an article about fascism (“Fascism Anyone?,” Free Inquiry, Spring 2003, page 20). Studying the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile), Dr. Britt found they all had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The excerpt is in accordance with the magazine’s policy. The 14 characteristics are: Powerful and Continuing Nationalism

Happy Birthday Ana! Published January 4, 2005

Today is Ana’s 5th Birthday. She was born on January 4th, 2000, so it’s always easy to remember how old she is!

Happy New Year Published January 2, 2005

I hope everyone had a good holiday season. I know I did. I took two weeks off of work and have been having a great time with my wife. Ana’s been gone these last two weeks and I really missed her, but she’ll be home tomorrow and then I can give her the presents I got her for Christmas. She’s going to get some more presents on Tuesday when she turns five.

Mom Published December 16, 2004

I got a call from Mom tonight. She had to get new platelets today but her white blood cell count doubled. She told me that if everything goes well, they may let her come home on Monday! Since she received her new stem cells, they consider her to be “born again” so that means that she is a whopping eight days old today. We had a good talk tonight and she sounds like she’s doing better.

Headaches Published November 19, 2004

I’m not doing so well. It seems that every day-some home from work, I have a killer headache and a desire to just fall asleep. I’m starting to think there is something wrong with me. Maybe there’s too much Stress in my life, or maybe I’m just getting Sick. I just wish it would be over. It’s getting nard to get work done. The tablet does make it easier though; I can stretch out on the couch and get some work done.

Tablet PC Experience Published November 5, 2004

I’m writing this post from my Tablet PC that the University bought me. It was sitting on my desk when I came into work this morning and I immediately started fiddling around with it. It is definitely going to take some getting used to but I’m very happy with how easy it is to use. It does a decent job with the handwriting recognition, and it also has voice recognition which will be very useful for me.
