Kata
Published March 16, 2004
I spent the evening working on some web pages and doing some kata. I love kata. It’s a great way to relax, build balance, expand the mind, and build up strength. I can really get a lot out of the movements if I do them precisely. The most amazing thing about kata, in my mind, is the way that a person can be completely drained of all energy by performing a simple kata, but also feel so peaceful and relaxed at the same time.
Music Stuff
Published March 9, 2004
I spent the evening working on some music and I thought it would be cool to post some of the drum loops I’ve been working on tonight. Drum tracks are the most fun for me to create, and I’ve never even played the drums.
Each file is in mp3 format and is ready to be looped in any standard music program. If I get demand I’ll convert them to REX files.
VB is a strange language. Lots of stuff doesn’t work the way it should. I’m frustrated and tired, and I have to work tomorrow. It’s time to write, but I don’t have much to say. Basically I spent all weekend working on a program I started three years ago. Carissa reminded me about it and I really would like to finish it up.
I played Ghost Recon for a bit today.
My cable modem crapped out today and locked me to a low speed. I called the Charter technicians who said I should just get a new modem. I could buy my own and they would knock off my bill each month. I’m down with that! Carissa picked up a new modem after work tonight and I got it running. The tech was right; the speed came right back to where it should be.
The weekend was spent doing web work, which was how I spent a good portion of my week. One of the sites I maintain had a bunch of new material to put up, so I had to scan photos, retouch stuff, change text, and publish.
My new grade submission application went live this week, but lots of other stuff went wrong, so work has been taking up most of my time.
Tomorrow, we’re supposed to be getting things ready to move out of our offices. The demolition of our area will begin next week, so we’re all getting ready to move our things out of the area. I’ll bring my camera and get some pictures of the process. It’s going to be weird not working in that area anymore. I’ve been down there since 1997 when I worked there as a student.
Back To Work
Published January 6, 2004
After two weeks off, work was really hard. I spent a good portion of the day working on some database-related problems. It’s amazing the kinds of things that can break. Sometimes I wonder if I am in fact in the right field. I really have a hard time motivating myself to actually write programs, and the constant distractions at work don’t help matters much.
I should just get a non-computer-related job… like CEO.
Before I forget…. Merry Christmas to everyone.
Microsoft has released a free toy that allows a user to use an ISO CD image as a “virtual” CD drive. This is great for developers who create their own ISOs for testing, and also great for MSDN subscribers who can use this tool to install new Microsoft products without having to burn the disk image to a physical CD. Download the tool here.
I got a call from my eye doctor today… they have ordered my glasses and my contact lenses. I should have them in about two weeks. I’m looking forward to that, since I can barely see out of the contact lenses I am wearing now. Even typing on the computer is a real pain. My lenses get full of those deposits that the contact solution is supposed to get rid of.
