Body Weight Training

Body Weight Training is a tried-and-true method to boost strength and endurance and is very popular among martial artists. Many skilled martial artists believe that it is an essential part of a workout regiment because the excercises force the body to move its weight using groups of muscles.

In combat, a person must move weight quickly using many different types of muscles. Many bodybuilders who do specific excercises to target specific muscles only receive benefits that are for show only. Many argue that even though a person can lift a lot of weight over his or her chest in the bench press, any strength benefits from that are not useful in a combat situation.

Over time, a person should be able to perform the body weight excercises more rapidly, thus increasing the intensity of the workout and building endurance. As a person becomes more used to the workout, the repetitions can be increased as well to maintain or improve strength. Best of all, a person learns to move their weight effectively, which pays off when performing advanced grappling or kicking techniques.
