Follow this guide to install Nettalk, a free IRC client, to connect to this chatroom instead of using the web interface. This will allow you to have logs of the chat and stay connected even when your browser is closed.
First, download Nettalk
Download Nettalk from http://ntalk.de. You can download any version of Nettalk. The "from a memory stick" one is the best if you want something you can bring with you on a thumb drive.
Set up server
Install the program and run it. The first time you run the program you will see the Server tab.
- Choose New
- Use chat.freenode.net as the server name
- Leave the port set to 6667
Then press Next
Set nickname
Fill in the nickname (what you want people to see you as in chat rooms) and your real name. You won't need any passwords.
Have the client join a channel
Add the command
/join ##bphogan_office_hours
to the text area on the commands after the login box. This will ensure the client always connects to the office hours chat each time the program starts.
Talk with others!
You're all set. Communicate with others, ask questions, network, and help your fellow students.
